Virginia Ann Sowers

Virginia Ann Stivason Sowers, 66, of Apollo, passed away, Wednesday, September 29, 2021, at UPMC Passavant Hospital in McCandless, she was born Thursday, March 24, 1955, in Adrian, PA, the daughter of the late George Allen Stivason, and Bonnie Ann Bouch Stivason of Avonmore.  Before her retirement in 2017, she was employed as a call center representative for a non-profit organization.  She was a graduate of Apollo Ridge High School and also earned her cosmetology license.  She was a member of the North Apollo Church of God, the Order of the Eastern Star, Kiski Township VFD ladies auxiliary, the Apollo Ridge Touchdown Club (where she was past president), and was very active in the Little League Program.  Virginia loved to collect elephants, and adopted, symbolically, one from Africa.  She enjoyed canning, baking, and was a master apple butter maker.  She loved to fish, crochet and was happiest spending time with her children and grandchildren.  In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, of 46 years Eugene Merion Sowers, three sons, Eugene “Jason” Sowers of Natrona Heights, Timothy Scott Sowers, and his wife, Danielle, of Bellevue and Joseph Allen Sowers of Apollo.  Six grandchildren, Ayden XE Sowers, Alex Wozniak, Donavin Sowers, Bowen RJ Sowers, Anabel L Sowers, and Hayley L Sowers, 2 brothers, Victor A Stivason and his wife, Marge, of Florida, Thomas A Stivason and his wife, Robin, of Adrian, and a sister, Sally A Buchanan and her husband, Brian, of Avonmore.  Family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 5, 2021, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the Kelly L. Corridoni Funeral Home LTD, 1916 Moore Avenue, North Apollo, PA  An additional hour of visitation will be conducted one hour prior to services in the North Apollo Church of God, beginning at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, October, 6, 2021.  Services will be conducted at 11:00 AM in the Church with Pastor Bob Shallenberger officiating.  Private Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Spring Church, PA  At the family’s request, masks are mandatory at visitation. Family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Virginia's memory to the Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf, 300 E. Swissvale Ave. Pittsburgh, Pa. 15218.
