Joyce Carolyn (Davis) Courtney;

Joyce Carolyn Davis Courtney, 84, of Avonmore, Pa., passed away on Friday, May 15, 2020 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born Tuesday, December 17, 1935 in Evans City, Pa., the daughter of the late Frank L. and Olive M. Davison Davis. Before her retirement, she was employed first as a nurse in Cranberry Twp. and then as floral designer at Mussigs Floral in Zelienople and ended her career as a owner/operator of a floral shop in Avonmore with her sister. She loved to cook and was member of an ad hoc gourmet club that traded recipes and dinner parties. She loved her flower gardens, spent a great deal of time in her sunroom where she watched her birds and documented their activities. She was devoted to the Children's Clinic in Avonmore, a member of the Avonmore Historical Society and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Joyce was a member of the Avonmore Presbyterian Church in Avonmore where she was very active in the women's organization. Joyce put family first, she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her sons, Tom Courtney of Salina,Pa., Jim Courtney and his wife, Cheri, of Alexandria, Va. and Andy Courtney of Saltsburg, 3 granddaughters and 4 great grandsons and a
sister, Alice Ruth Teslik of Zelienople,Pa. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Paul Courtney, a daughter, Anna Courtney in infancy and 2 sisters, Betty Meeder and Mae Louise Appleby. Due to public heath concerns and our concerns for our families, all funeral services are private.
