Bernerd Andrew Zanavich, 80, of Saltsburg (Bell Twp.), Pa., passed away on Friday, January 15, 2021 at UPMC Mercy in Pittsburgh, Pa., after injuries sustained in a house fire at his home. He was born on Monday, August 5, 1940 in Tinsmill, Pa., the son of the late Benny and Mary Furman Zanavich. He was a United States Marine Corp. Veteran. Before his retirement, he was a pipefitter for US Steel and finished his career as a toll collector for Pa. Turnpike. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, grocery shopping, watching old westerns, the Steelers and the Pirates. He loved going to his camp in Medix Run, Virginia Beach, the comfort of his own home, his dogs, Thor and Tank (who also perished in the fire), but most of all he was happiest spending time with his family and grandchildren. He is survived by his children, Bernie Andrew Zanavich II of Saltsburg, Karen Gould and her husband, Paul, of Saltsburg, John Zanavich of Tinsmill, and Sonya (Jason Hoffman) Zanavich of Baltimore, MD, and his grandchildren, Justin Gould of Saltsburg and Brittany Gould of Johnstown. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Jean Sampsell Zanavich, his son, Frank Zanavich, his sisters, Benay Parson and Mary Ann Gyenes. At his request, all funeral services were private.
